Raising Readers Workshop

We’ve all heard about the importance of reading aloud with children. But why is reading so vital to a child’s success in school? And how can we make this time special and fun for the whole family? We offer “Raising Readers” workshops for caring adults who want to learn more about early literacy development.

The workshops focus on:

  • The six skills children need to be ready to learn to read

  • How to choose the best books for young listeners

  • The latest findings from research on brain development

  • How the public library can help prepare children for school Class Visits School groups, preschools and daycares are welcome to visit the library.

If you would like an orientation, a storytime or special assistance or instruction on learning about using the library, please call your local Minneapolis Public Library or visit our website for information on visiting Central Library. We will do our best to accommodate your request.

Groups are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. In order to accommodate as many requests as possible, we ask that you limit your request for a special group visit to one per month. Please provide at least two weeks advance notice. Space is subject to availability. Classroom Collections The Minneapolis Public Library provides recreational-reading collections of books for institutions such as daycares and schools in Minneapolis. Click here for more information.
