National History Day 2008:
Conflict and Compromise in history
History Day research is an interesting, challenging way to explore the past. The results from the research may be an imaginative exhibit, original performance, documentary, poster or paper related to the annual theme. Libraries have many resources (including an experienced staff) to help with these projects. The library’s resources include books, magazines, newspapers, databases and links to selected websites. Minneapolis Central Library, which is more that 100 years old, is a goldmine of primary and secondary materials such as photographs, diaries, letters and government documents (including treaties, laws and reports). Come dig in!
Getting Started
Starting your research? Hint--start with some general books to get you oriented to your subject (don’t hesitate to use the Children’s area for books to get a clear, basic understanding of the subject) then move on to the more specialized resources.
